Bonnie Tyler Passes Away at 75

Bonnie Tyler, the iconic singer, has passed away at the age of 75 in a Portuguese hospital, according to her family.

On Thursday, the family shared that Tyler succumbed to an illness she had been battling. In a social media post, they expressed their heartbreak over her sudden passing, asking for privacy during this tragic time. They mentioned that a more detailed statement would be provided soon.

Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, had undergone emergency bowel surgery in May and was placed in a medically induced coma for recovery. While she came out of the coma in June, her team revealed that she remained “very unwell” and was in intensive care.

At that time, she had been set to tour across Europe, but her health issues led to the cancellation of her summer concert dates.

Known for her distinctive raspy voice, Tyler gained fame with Grammy-nominated hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” the latter being a power ballad crafted by producer Jim Steinman in the 1980s after collaborating with Meatloaf.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s press secretary expressed sadness over her death, labeling her as “one of Britain’s greatest recording artists.”

Welsh Secretary of State Jo Stevens also shared her condolences on X, describing Tyler as a “Welsh music icon” and reflecting that her music was the soundtrack of her youth.

Tyler is survived by her husband, Robert Sullivan, with whom she shared more than 50 years of marriage. They did not have any children.
