Washington Nationals Ban Individual for Offensive Sign at Game

The Washington Nationals have identified and banned an individual from Nationals Park for displaying a sign that called for the deportation of “over 100 million people” and referenced a white supremacist website during a game on Sunday, according to a team spokesperson.

While the person’s identity hasn’t been disclosed, the Nationals are coordinating with the Metropolitan Police Department about a potential investigation.

Reportedly, three individuals were involved in hoisting the banner in the upper deck near the first base line but fled when an usher attempted to remove it.

They unveiled the sign during the bottom of the fourth inning, coinciding with Washington’s “Salute” to veterans and military personnel.

In a statement shared with the media, the Nationals emphasized their strong opposition to discriminatory speech, affirming their commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment for fans.

Notably, Jake Lang, who had previously participated in the January 6 Capitol riots and is a conservative influencer, celebrated the banner’s display on social media. He claimed the audience responded enthusiastically and remarked that the group could have faced serious consequences if not escorted away.

It’s currently unclear how the individual got past security since they did not have an allowed bag that complied with stadium regulations.

Nationals Park enforces a policy regarding signage, stating that the venue is not a place for public gatherings or discussions outside of game-related activities.

The policy further stipulates that all banners must be limited to on-field occurrences, player achievements, or celebratory messages related to special occasions.

The Nationals do not tolerate derogatory language aimed at any individual’s race, ethnicity, gender, or other personal attributes.

On the field, the Nationals lost to the Orioles with a score of 7-3 and will kick off a three-game series at home against the Mets on Tuesday.
