Fan wearing Caitlin Clark jersey removed from Fever-Sun game

On Tuesday night at Boston’s TD Garden, a fan was removed during the game after an incident involving Sanya Rivers of the Connecticut Sun.

In the second quarter, a male spectator made an inappropriate remark as Rivers was inbounding the ball following a timeout. This prompted Rivers to step away from the sidelines and alert the referee about what had occurred. That’s when the officiating crew began coordinating with arena security to escort the fan out.

Security approached a fan wearing a jersey for Kate Rinkler, telling him he needed to leave. A second officer followed him up the stairs, leading him out of the building while the surrounding crowd booed and said goodbye as he walked away.

There were earlier claims suggesting that the fan had touched Rivers, but further reports cleared that up, stating this wasn’t the case. It seems the rumors didn’t hold up, as confirmed by a local reporter.

After the game, Rivers commented on fans’ behavior, sharing that they had crossed the line. One outlet humorously noted how unfortunate it was for fans who had spent money on good seats only to be kicked out.

The actions of the fan violated the WNBA’s Code of Conduct, which aims to maintain a respectful atmosphere free from abusive language and aggressive behavior.

The code specifies that guests who engage in fights, throw things, or attempt to enter the court will be removed immediately.

During the broadcast of the Fever-Sun game, it was noted that there was a delay due to security handling the situation. The commentator mentioned, “One more delay, as fans are being escorted out. These were near the Sun’s bench, which is why the game paused.”

While there was a significant distraction, the Connecticut Sun didn’t address what specifically happened between Rivers and the fan.

The game continued after some tense moments, though the Fever ultimately triumphed 85-77, despite a noticeable injury to one player during the match.
