Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has directed former top prosecutor and ex-boyfriend Nathan Wade not to answer any questions about his office's work on the House Judiciary Committee.
Mr. Willis disclosed his instructions to Mr. Wade in a letter Monday to Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Wade is scheduled to give a deposition before the committee on Tuesday.
“I am concerned that your request for testimony against Mr. Wade may force him to unreasonably divulge confidential information protected by privilege,” she wrote, adding that her He added that his office had informed Mr. Wade that it was “asserting all legal protections and privileges regarding the information.” That's what he knows about the ongoing criminal charges. ”
The only case Wade handled for Willis was the Donald Trump election interference case.
Willis' election interference lawsuit against Donald Trump has hit numerous obstacles both in and out of court.
Jordan began investigating Willis in January 2024 for allegedly receiving more than $14.6 million in grants from the Department of Justice (DOJ) between 2020 and 2023. The funding deadline has raised questions about whether the Justice Department has given Willis federal funds to fund it. Trump's prosecution.
On November 18, 2022, Wade spent eight hours in the White House Counsel's Office, the same day Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith and Matthew, who at the time was the third-highest ranking official in the U.S. Department of Justice. Colangelo resigned. He takes up a post at the Manhattan prosecutor's office.
All three events occurred a few days after the November 9 press conference. Asked about the possibility of Trump running for president in 2024, President Joe Biden responded, “If he does run, we just need to prove that he won't seize power.'' ” he said. Under the due diligence of our Constitution, we will ensure that he never becomes our next president again. [sic]”
Wade after Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Willis could only remain in Trump's case if he fired him or if Wade voluntarily resigned. He resigned from the case in March 2024.
The McAfee decision found that the relationship between the ex-girlfriends did not create an “actual conflict,” but wrote that the two had engaged in “conduct that resembled misconduct” that warranted Wade's removal.
Willis and Wade testified Wade swore under oath that they did not begin dating until he was hired as a special prosecutor in November 2021. But according to court filings by former President Donald Trump's legal team, cell phone data shows Willis and Wade had more than 2,000 phone calls during the first 11 months of the incident. 2021 — Before my romantic relationship started, I was making an average of 6 phone calls per day.
Additional evidence also contradicted Mr. Willis' testimony.
Mr. Trump and his lawyers have argued that the prosecution of Mr. Willis was a politically motivated legal stunt. Mr. Trump has maintained his innocence.
