Bills Fans Criticize Highmark Stadium Water Policy
The new Highmark Stadium continues to face criticism from some Bills fans.
Initially, concerns were raised about obstructed views and the absence of complimentary water in the concourse. Now, fans are expressing frustration over the small sizes of the water cups offered and the unavailability of water bottles.
While there are multiple water bottle refilling stations throughout the stadium, fans have pointed out that it’s somewhat impractical since bringing personal bottles to the game is prohibited.
“The Buffalo Bills are the only stadium that doesn’t provide water access for every attendee,” one fan shared with WGRZ-TV. “I think it’s legally questionable, morally wrong, and very dangerous for events like concerts,” they added.
The Bills organization responded to these concerns, stating that the issue surfaces “every so often,” particularly during games in hot weather. They remarked, “But we have not changed the policy and feel we offer fans some good options while also maintaining our ability to sell water and beverages.”
On September 30, the stadium’s X account released a video demonstrating the use of the water filling stations. The footage showed a person grabbing a plastic cup from “Guest Experience,” filling it up, and going back to their seat.
This video, however, received backlash from fans. One user emphasized the need for allowing empty water bottles to be filled at the venue, declaring, “I will die on this hill,” accompanied by a photo of a Yeti bottle sporting a Bills logo.
Another comment highlighted concerns over hygiene, pointing out, “Cup from a dirty counter, touched by dirty hands…at least have a cup dispenser.”
More criticism followed, with one fan noting the condescending tone of the video, saying it reflected a lack of understanding about what it’s like to attend a game as a fan, compared to being an employee.
Another pointed out, “Not sure this is going to help the way you hope it does. You are the only stadium that doesn’t allow an empty water bottle inside.”
Recently, the Bills suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Patriots 29-26 at home. Up next, they’ll be heading to Los Angeles and Las Vegas before their bye week in Week 7. After that, they are scheduled to face the Ravens at Highmark Stadium on November 1.
