Controversy Over Raiders-Broncos Game Ending
What just happened? Fans have plenty of reasons to be upset.
There’s a growing call for an investigation regarding the controversial finish of the matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos, which the Broncos won 24-17. This score doesn’t quite capture how the game played out, considering Denver was a 7.5-point favorite going in.
As the game concluded, many spectators felt that actions taken on the field seemed suspiciously aimed at favoring the betting spread for Las Vegas. The Broncos found themselves in a 4-on-4 situation on their 28-yard line but opted not to kick a field goal that could have extended their lead to 13 points—instead, they ran the ball but gained nothing. This choice, while arguably defensible, felt like a precursor to something fishy unfolding.
With under 30 seconds left, the Raiders seized control. Las Vegas’ quarterback, after stopping the clock at 16 seconds, completed a pass that usually would have ended the game without further ado.
Strangely enough, a delay of game penalty was called, leading the Raiders to kick a field goal as the clock hit zero, which meant they covered the spread favoring Las Vegas.
Fans quickly expressed their disbelief, especially following a passionate outburst from Barstool Sports’ David Portnoy.
Many voices echoed similar sentiments: it all seemed a bit too shady. Some questioned the decisions made by the Broncos, noting they didn’t take the field goal when they had the chance, while the Raiders kicked a seemingly pointless field goal. It all felt rather dubious.
There are whispers of foul play. Was there some influence at work, perhaps? As one viewer mused, it raised uncomfortable questions about the integrity of the game we all love.
