Marc Jacobs Speaks on Luigi Mangione After Murder Plea

Fashion designer Marc Jacobs has made headlines for his unexpected admiration of Luigi Mangione, now known for committing murder. Jacobs described Mangione as a “fashion trendsetter” who he believes should be emulated.

During a lie detector interview with Vanity Fair, Jacobs noted that several celebrities, including Winona Ryder, Lil’ Kim, and Courtney Love, had worn his designs at their own trials.

After affirming that statement, the interviewer presented Jacobs with a photo of Mangione. He was asked if he would consider consulting for Mangione, who had recently murdered a healthcare CEO. The interviewer inquired, “Can you style this person for her trial?”

Jacobs reacted casually, saying, “Uh, yeah,” after viewing the photo of Mangione.

Curious about his styling approach, the interviewer asked how he would style Mangione. Jacobs responded, “Actually, I think his outfit is very nice.” The magazine then pressed, “Will this make him a trendsetter?” Jacobs replied confidently and quickly, “Yes.”

Mangione recently entered a guilty plea for the premeditated murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, which occurred in December 2024. He stated in court that after suffering from chronic back pain and facing insurance challenges, he had traveled to New York with the intention of killing Thompson. On that day, he shot Thompson and acknowledged that he understood the gravity of his actions.

Interestingly, there’s no evidence that Mangione was ever a patient at United Healthcare.

He has now pleaded guilty to charges of “interstate stalking resulting in death” and “stalking through use of an interstate facility resulting in death,” both of which may lead to a life sentence in prison.

Notably, Judge Margaret Garnett, appointed by Joe Biden, dismissed two other charges that could have potentially led to the death penalty.

Furthermore, the defense team is likely aiming for Mangione’s second-degree murder trial to be dropped, citing “double jeopardy.”

Regardless of the fashion debate, Mangione seems to have gained a curious status among certain groups.
