New York City police are investigating a stabbing by an immigrant gang in Lower Manhattan that left one teenager dead and another injured.
The stabbings are believed to have been the result of a conflict between immigrant gangs that had taken over several New York City-run hotels for immigrants in the area, the paper said. Local News Channel ABC7 NY.
The two victims, both teenage immigrants, were reportedly affiliated with a Venezuelan gang called Los Diablos de la 42 (Devils of 42nd Street), and were killed on the afternoon of December 5. At 7:43 am, he was attacked by three unknown assailants.
The victim, 17-year-old Yeremi Corino, lived at the Roosevelt Hotel in midtown Manhattan, which is used as an immigrant shelter paid for by New York City. Corino was stabbed in the chest and taken to a nearby hospital after a witness called 911. Corino died from his injuries at a hospital.

The second victim, an 18-year-old immigrant named Alan Magalis Bello, was stabbed in the arm with a screwdriver and is expected to recover.
The three attackers were caught on camera wearing coronavirus masks. Police have not yet made any arrests.
Initial reports indicated that the assailants attacked the two victims after asking if they spoke English, and the incident was initially investigated as a hate crime. Several Democratic politicians rushed to condemn the attack as “racist.”
“Two immigrant teenagers were stabbed in our city because they didn't speak English,” said Congressman Dan Goldman, whose district includes parts of Manhattan, according to local media outlet amNewYork Metro.
“I condemn this racist and xenophobic hatred in the strongest terms. Such hatred has no place in our city and must be rejected.” The suspects must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
But police no longer investigated the attack as a hate crime after video footage showed a confrontation over a gang sign.
According to ABC7 NY, video footage shows the victims being confronted by a large group of people and being questioned. “Why are you flashing gang signs?'' A scuffle then ensued, leaving Corino dead and Bello injured.

The New York Post reported that the two victims were members of Diablos de la 42, a Venezuelan gang connected to Torren de Aragua, an international terrorist organization.
ABC7 NY reported that the suspects are believed to be gang members from the Caribbean immigrant community.
Jason Savino, deputy chief of the New York Police Department's criminal bureau, said the Diablos gang sent out a message mourning Corino's death and vowing revenge on the Caribbean gang.
