A four-month New Jersey toddler died after being “long-term” by a hot car. His father was charged with a tragic death, authorities said.
Investigators did not say how long Moshe Erich's son appears to have been left to himself in Lakewood on Tuesday in Lakewood.
Local news footage shows officers around the parked van remained in direct sunlight.
A Lakewood officer received a 911 call about an unresponsive child around 1:45pm, and officers were dispatched to a residential block near Fifth Avenue between Monmouth and Princeton Avenue, and to a pair of kosher supermarket markets and synagogues. Ehrlich is three blocks from where the van was parked.
“The corresponding officers have found Hazzola Medical Services, which is trying to save a life for a four-month-old male toddler.” The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said..
The boy was taken to the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was declared dead.
The detective ultimately determined that the boy was “alone left.” [Ehrlich’s] A long-term vehicle,” the prosecutor said.
Ehrlich was arrested Thursday and charged with child danger after surrendering to police. He was released by a judge a few hours later.
The family did not respond to the message.
The baby's name has not been announced by investigators.
