Tragic Death of Chicago Father Amid Robbery Incident
Mark Arceta, a 40-year-old father, was tragically killed while driving to work at a local hospital. His death comes just one day before the birth of his son, a heartbreaking twist his girlfriend, Roan Masankai, shared with a news outlet. They had chosen to keep her in the dark about the severity of the situation, perhaps to protect her during her pregnancy. When she heard the news, she said, “I just grabbed the phone and couldn’t believe it.”
The incident occurred in Chicago, during what police describe as a chaotic robbery. The suspect, 30-year-old Dejuan Wingard, was reportedly driving almost 100 mph when the crash happened. Investigators state he was part of a group that broke into a Louis Vuitton store on Michigan Avenue, with images catching one of the suspects driving a truck through the shop’s window, leading to a theft of nearly $700,000 worth of goods.
At least seven individuals have been charged in connection with this robbery, now labeled as a “smash and grab.” Those charged include Keith Perkins, Anthony Hemphill, Harvey Fisher, and several others, facing charges such as murder, robbery, and felony theft. Many of the suspects have lengthy criminal histories, which paints a troubling picture.
Darius Bowdry, another suspect, has been arrested 12 times as an adult, according to police records. Additionally, Kellen McMiller, who had previously been branded a “peacekeeping force,” is noted to have multiple outstanding warrants.
The Arceta family shared that Mark was looking forward to welcoming his second child. His partner is devastated, demanding justice and hoping for strict accountability for those involved. “I want my son to know that his father was so loved. He was selfless and generous and always willing to help those in need,” Masankai expressed.
