Father makes 11-year-old daughter help with burglary — then abandons her during escape attempt, according to prosecutors

Michigan Father Accused of Forcing Daughter into Home Invasion

According to prosecutors, a father from Michigan is facing serious charges for allegedly compelling his 11-year-old daughter to aid in a home invasion. He reportedly left her behind when the homeowner returned unexpectedly.

Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax, 29, hails from Detroit and has been charged with first-degree home invasion, second-degree burglary, theft, concealing a stolen vehicle, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

On May 2, Broadenax was arrested with a bond set initially at $75,000, including house arrest with a GPS tether. However, this bond was later raised to $150,000 by Judge William Maconico during a recent hearing.

Reports indicate that Broadenax arrived at his home in a stolen vehicle on April 29. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office notes that he forced his daughter to help him break into the residence of a 75-year-old victim.

Broadenax fled the scene on foot, abandoning his daughter when the homeowner returned. Detroit police swiftly apprehended him shortly afterward.

A local resident, David Bridges, expressed his disbelief, stating, “As a father of eight, I can’t imagine putting my kids in harm’s way like that.” He added, “It’s really sad, you could have lost your life and your child’s well-being.”

Broadnax’s potential cause hearing is set for May 14, with a preliminary examination slated for May 21.
