Disappearance of Two-Year-Old Sparks Investigation
The father of a two-year-old boy who went missing during a custody visit last month may have told the child’s mother that he threw their son into the Bronx River, according to a law enforcement source.
Arians Williams, 20, is the father of Montrell Williams, who has been unaccounted for since May 10. Reports indicate that he brandished a knife when he encountered the boy’s mother on the street this past Sunday.
During this altercation, he allegedly made the claim about throwing their son from the Bruckner Bridge.
Surveillance footage from that evening, which appears to show Arians disposing of a black sack into the river, may lend credence to his statements, sources have suggested.
The NYPD deployed a dive team to the area on Monday night, but they found no evidence and continued their search into Tuesday.
Arians is currently being held without bail following a warrant for violating custody arrangements after he failed to comply with a family court judge’s orders regarding his son.
Sources also indicate that charges are forthcoming against him related to the knife incident.
This troubling situation began on May 10, when Montrell was dropped off by his mother for a scheduled custody visit. Reports state that he was with his father for what was intended to be a Mother’s Day gathering.
At one point during this time, Arian, who shares custody of Montrell, took the boy with him, as per reports.
The family court judge subsequently issued a warrant for Arians after his mother expressed in court on May 28 that she was unaware of the whereabouts of her young son.
Now, the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is examining the department’s handling of the Montrell case, questioning whether it should be treated as a case of custody interference rather than merely a missing person search.
Anyone with information regarding Montrell’s disappearance is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or the Spanish line at 1-888-57-Pista (74782).
