Father of shooting suspect was a guest of a Democratic congressman at a Trump event.

Man Accused of Shooting Israeli Embassy Officials

The father of the individual accused of shooting two Israeli embassy officials in Washington, D.C., attended a speech by President Donald Trump in March, having been invited by a Democratic representative from Illinois. The representative, D-Ill, mentioned that “Eric Rodriguez was our guest during the president’s joint speech to Congress, but he doesn’t know his family.”

Eric Rodriguez is a veteran involved with veterans’ services at the Chicago VA Hospital, as indicated by the organization’s website.

More Charges Possible for Suspect in DC Embassy Attack

On May 21, Yaron Lisinski and Sarah Milgrim tragically lost their lives following an event they attended at the Capital Jewish Museum. Photos of them were released later by the Israeli Embassy.

The representative, Garcia, expressed his pride in Eric, saying, “Eric represents the best in our community. Those who served his country continue to serve veterans and fight every day to protect the dignity of their workers.” He mentioned this in a prior statement.

Rodriguez condemned the treatment of veterans during Trump’s speech, as captured in a video shared online.

Both Rodriguez and the SEIU did not respond to requests for comments.

Israeli officials Emphasize Importance of Embassy Staff

Elias Rodriguez, the 31-year-old suspect in the shooting, made headlines when he discussed his concerns about influential figures, including Donald Trump and Elon Musk, impacting the VA system adversely. “They are indiscriminately cutting people’s jobs, they’re cutting funds,” he argued, highlighting how many depend on these services.

On Thursday, Elias faced federal court over multiple charges, including first-degree murder for the deaths of Lisinski and Milgrim. Authorities allege that he traveled from Chicago to D.C. the day before the incident and brought a weapon in checked luggage before attending a Jewish Commission event.

Potential Death Penalty for Suspects in Embassy Case

Surveillance footage reportedly captures Elias approaching Lisinski and Milgrim, then attacking as they entered a crosswalk. The attack escalated, with Elias allegedly reloading and continuing to fire at the couple.

When apprehended, Elias reportedly stated, “I did it for Palestine. I did it for Gaza. I’m not armed.” Witnesses captured him shouting “Free Palestine” upon his arrest.

If convicted, Elias could face the death penalty or, at the very least, spend a minimum of 30 years in prison.

Garcia condemned the act as a horrible instance of anti-Semitism, expressing his sorrow over the lost lives and asserting that “justice cannot win through violence.”
