When Harrison Tinsley became a father for the first time, he never expected to find himself embroiled in a four-and-a-half-year legal battle with a “genderless” mother who was trying to raise her son as “non-binary.”
Tinsley could only watch from afar as her ex-boyfriend dressed their son Sawyer in dresses and makeup, referring to him with “they/them” pronouns.
“It’s not fun to spend a lot of time and money in court, but he’s worth it,” Tinsley said. Allie Beth Stuckey in Last year’s interview In “Relatable,” he said, “I will never give up. I will fight for him forever, until my last breath. I will give it my all. That’s my duty as a father.”
Now he’s talking to Stuckey again, and this time he seems a lot happier.
“I can’t believe the latest news. I finally have full custody of Sawyer,” Tinsley said with a smile. “I’m so grateful. It feels like a miracle and a dream come true.”
“I’ve been fighting for my son for four and a half years now,” Tinsley said. “There’s been another incident with his mother, she’s been arrested again, and Child Protective Services (CPS) got involved.”
The incident involved an altercation between Sawyer’s ex-girlfriend and his father, which Sawyer witnessed.
“They were fighting. It was a very serious fight, there was blood. It was very scary for a 4-year-old to watch,” Tinsley explained, adding that Sawyer claims her mother instructed her to hit her grandfather in the face with a plastic bat.
“His mother claims he didn’t say anything and was just being respectful to her, but I’m inclined to believe Sawyer,” Tinsley said. “I’ve seen pictures of kids covered in blood with baseball bats or whatever, so it certainly seems like that’s what happened and there was a very serious altercation.”
As a mother herself, Stuckey was not only horrified by Sawyer’s mother’s actions, but also deeply impressed by how hard Tinsley fought back.
“I’m so grateful that they fought so long and so hard for my son,” Stuckey said, “It was a big sacrifice. It took a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of money. But it was worth it because they fought for my son.”
