Tragic Shooting in Alabama Community Claims Father’s Life
A cherished father lost his life in a shooting incident at a shopping center in a serene Alabama town. His wife, reflecting on that fateful moment, recalled his final words as he breathed his last beside her.
Stephen Morrow, 46, was fatally shot just before 9 p.m. on June 3 in the parking lot of a Walmart in Sumiton, situated around 40 miles from Birmingham. He was quickly taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was declared dead.
Following his passing, his wife, Kayla Morrow, expressed feeling “completely numb.” She shared, “Every time I close my eyes, all I see is what’s happening. His last words to me were: ‘Kayla, I’m dying and I love you.’”
In the wake of this loss, she described the experience as unimaginably painful, stating, “Elijah has endured so much. He is doing well so far. I was devastated when I saw his little face. Please keep the Morrows in your prayers.”
Authorities have indicated that Morrow’s body will be examined by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville. The Sumiton Police Department announced that an 18-year-old, Timothy Brayden Crawford, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Crawford is set to appear in court on June 9 for a bail hearing and again on June 16 for a preliminary hearing.
Investigators have yet to determine if Morrow and Crawford were acquainted before the incident or what instigated this tragic event. The community is understandably shaken, as they try to make sense of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
One local employee, Tristan Pedraza, commented on the fear that gripped him and his colleagues, noting, “It was really scary to know that this happened right next to the house where I was.” He recounted hearing gunshots shortly after a manager’s wife arrived back at the restaurant to get her forgotten cell phone.
Pedraza remarked on the rarity of such violent events in the vicinity, indicating that everyone is still searching for answers about what led to this deadly incident.
Morrow is remembered fondly as a dedicated husband and father, with passions for fishing and cars, and, most importantly, his son. He is survived by his wife Kayla and their son, Elijah. A GoFundMe has been initiated to assist the family with funeral costs.
Described as having her world turned upside down, Kayla now faces life as a single parent, grappling not only with profound grief but also the financial challenges that accompany such an unexpected loss.
