Fauci Expresses Frustration After Senate Hearing
Dr. Anthony Fauci was overheard expressing his frustration to his wife, Christine Grady, following a tough day at the Capitol. He mentioned someone was “yelling” at him, which seemed to bother him quite a bit.
The couple, married for 41 years, was seen taking a brisk walk near their $2.4 million residence in a bustling area of Washington, D.C.
Earlier that day, Fauci had a contentious appearance before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. He invoked his Fifth Amendment rights more than 100 times, effectively sidestepping questions about the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fauci was reportedly fidgeting with his phone and wearing a Georgetown University “Iron Med 5K” T-shirt as he vented to Grady, using strong language after receiving criticism from Republican senators.
The doctor, who grew up in Brooklyn, was called to testify after being subpoenaed by Senator Rand Paul. Paul accused Fauci of concealing the origins of COVID-19 and misleading the public.
After a four-hour session, Paul (R-Ky.) announced plans to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings against Fauci due to his refusal to answer basic questions posed by Republican members.
At 85, Fauci has a long career, having been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for 38 years until his retirement in December 2022. He left his role as the highest-paid public servant in the country, earning $481,000 in his last year, and the couple’s combined net worth is estimated to be over $11 million.
In 2023, Fauci began a new role as a distinguished professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in the division of infectious diseases.
Grady previously served as the chief bioethicist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Reports indicate she was let go shortly after President Trump began his second term, a statement attributed to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
In March, Grady joined Fauci at Georgetown University, where she works as a Senior Advisor in Bioethics and Neuroethics, as well as a Professor of Neuroscience.
