Chaffetz Shares Thoughts on FBI Investigation After Kirk Shooting
Jason Chaffetz, a former Republican representative from Utah, spoke with FOX News host Harris Faulkner, expressing his trust in FBI director Kash Patel, stating that “he knows what he’s doing.” His remarks came during an appearance on the network where he discussed the investigation following the shocking assassination of conservative leader Charlie Kirk.
Kirk was shot at a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event held at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Chaffetz, who was present during the incident, mentioned he received a call from Patel later that night. It’s important to note he described the situation as horrifying.
“The president called me, I was very moved by it,” he said, visibly emotional. “He expressed his love for Charlie and his family. That guy, Donald Trump, is a rock. It’s quite something in this world. The president wanted to check on Charlie and his family. It was really a heartfelt conversation.”
Chaffetz continued, “I also heard from Kash Patel. I’ve known him for over ten years. Late at night, he has a lot on his plate and faces considerable local criticism. I have my concerns about the FBI’s operations, but it felt as if there was a director who was fully aware and dedicated to putting resources into this matter.”
Earlier that day, Patel announced the arrest of a suspect, although that individual was later released following questioning. The FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office shared two photographs from surveillance footage, seeking assistance in identifying the suspected shooters.
Kirk, the founder of TPUSA, established the organization in June 2012, aimed at engaging high school and college students in conservative values. He also hosted “The Charlie Kirk Show,” which eventually transitioned into a radio show on the Salem Radio Network.
