FBI Investigates Leak of DIA Report on Iran Strike

The FBI has launched an investigation into the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report that was leaked to CNN, which evaluates the impacts of President Donald Trump’s military strike against Iran, as announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegses on Wednesday.

During statements made at the NAGO Summit in The Hague, Hegses criticized the media’s portrayal of the leak, suggesting it was designed to cast the President in a negative light despite the strike being an “overwhelming success.” This report initially surfaced on June 21, offering preliminary findings that indicated the attacks on nuclear sites in Fordeau, Natanz, and Esfahan did not wholly dismantle Iran’s nuclear program, as Trump had suggested.

“Since this information is intended for internal use only, we are currently conducting a leak investigation with the FBI,” Hegses stated.

Sources cited by CNN mentioned that Iran’s nuclear program could be restored within months. In response, both the White House and senior DIA officials stressed that the findings were incomplete and didn’t accurately portray the extent of damage inflicted on the nuclear facilities.

Moreover, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged, contrary to earlier reports, that the nuclear site had sustained “severe damage.”

A DIA representative noted, “This is a preliminary, low-confidence report and will continue to be refined as additional intelligence becomes available. We are collaborating with the appropriate authorities to investigate any unauthorized disclosure of confidential information.”

The FBI has informed the Daily Caller News Foundation that they cannot confirm or dismiss any ongoing investigations.

Hegses expressed confidence in the effectiveness of the air campaign, stating, “Based on everything we’ve observed, our bombing campaign eliminated Iran’s capability to develop nuclear weapons. Our powerful bombs precisely targeted the designated locations, yielding successful results.” He added, “Anyone suggesting the strikes weren’t devastating is merely attempting to undermine the President and the success of the mission.”
