FBI launches a criminal probe into the Baltimore bridge collapse

The FBI has officially launched a criminal investigation into the sudden collapse of a Baltimore bridge that killed six construction workers, the newspaper reported. daily mail.

Authorities will investigate whether the Dali’s 22-member crew knew there were serious systemic problems with the bridge before it left the Maryland port on March 26. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott agreed, saying an outside firm is conducting the investigation. He was brought in to “hold all actors responsible for the Key Bridge tragedy”.

Associated Press report FBI agents were on board the cargo ship Monday to conduct court-authorized law enforcement operations, officials said. The agency declined further comment on the investigation.

The development comes just three weeks after footage was shared online showing the 110,000 ton cargo ship crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The collision caused the entire bridge to collapse into the river, killing six construction workers, according to reports.

“This unthinkable tragedy has taken Marylanders from their loved ones and endangered the livelihoods of thousands of Baltimore residents who rely on the Port of Baltimore,” Scott said.

“As part of that effort, we need to seek redress from those potentially liable, and given that the vessel’s owner filed a motion for limitation of liability just days after the accident. “We need to act just as quickly to protect the city’s interests,” he added.

The Daily Mail reported that a federal investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board is already underway.

Throughout the initial stages of the investigation, authorities focused on the container ship’s power system, which caused the container ship to deviate from its course.

The Associated Press reported that the Dali is managed by Synergy Marine Group and owned by Grace Ocean Private Limited, both of which are based in Singapore. Danish shipping company Maersk chartered the Dali.

“Due to the scale of the incident, various government agencies are conducting investigations, and we are fully participating in them,” Synergy Marine spokesman Darrell Wilson said Monday.

“Out of respect for these investigations and the upcoming legal process, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”

The study comes amid concerns about the safety of thousands of bridges across the U.S.
