FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Shreds Biden-Era Diversity, Equity Policies

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr on Tuesday announced the end of the agency's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies from the Biden administration.

In the weeks following his historic election to become the 47th president, Trump chose Commissioner Brendan Kerr will be the next FCC chairman.

As Kerr's first order as chairman, then-chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel called for an end to the agency's DEI group, formally known as the Communications Equity and Diversity Council (CEDC). enacted In 2021.

Sources said Kerr told the head of CEDC that he intended to end the group's activities.

He said in a written statement:

Encouraging separate forms of discrimination violates the Communications Act and deprives Americans of their right to fair and equal treatment under the law. This is also wasteful spending to promote discriminatory DEI policies under the Biden administration. The FCC has accomplished this by incorporating DEI into its strategic priorities, budget requests, advisory groups, rulemaking process, and many other elements of its official operations.

Mr Kerr said his orders of action were:

  • Remove DEI promotion from agency strategic plans
  • Remove DEI promotion from the budget
  • rescinds the FCC's DEI Equity Action Plan and DEI Task Force and removes DEI from the Advisory Committee Directive;
  • Stop including DEI promotion in your annual performance plan
  • And stop DEI analysis from FCC economic reports

“The FCC is committed to properly carrying out the agency's statutory mission,” Kerr concluded in a statement.

DEI Council asked for Among other things:

…make recommendations to the Commission on ways to accelerate the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises; Media owned by women and minoritiesdigital news and information, audio and video programming industry (owners, suppliers, employees, etc.). The move follows President Trump's call to abolish DEI across the executive branch and other agencies. his executive order intention:

…to the fullest extent permitted by law, terminate all DEI, DEIA, and “environmental justice” positions and positions (including, without limitation, the position of “Chief Diversity Officer”). All Equity Action Plans, Equity Actions, Initiatives or Programs, Equity Related Grants or Contracts. Any DEI or DEIA performance requirements for employees, contractors, or recipients.

Carr on Monday thanked the president for appointing him to lead the FCC. He said in a written statement:

The FCC is advancing important work on a variety of issues, from regulating technology and media to unlocking new opportunities for jobs and growth through agency actions on spectrum, infrastructure, and the space economy. It also advances the national security interests of the United States and protects consumers.
