FDNY trainee executes amazing engagement proposal

A new firefighter in training has recently added another title to his list: fiancée.

Jason Ralph, an apprentice firefighter, proposed during the FDNY’s Family Day at Randall Island, catching his girlfriend by surprise. She thought he was participating in a mock rescue operation.

A heartwarming moment was captured as Ralph geared up and rappelled down the building, while his girlfriend, Dasia Moore, watched from a window ledge, waiting for her “rescue.”

Instead of a fake fire, Ralph presented her with a true surprise—his proposal, alongside several fellow firefighters who held letters reading, “Will you marry me?”

The FDNY shared details about the event, stating, “Clearly everyone was working to raise questions.” Social media quickly filled with congratulations for the couple, with one user humorously commenting, “When sparks fly! Congratulations!” Another added, “Who says Probees can’t have a little fun?!”

Family Day is a special occasion for apprentice firefighters to showcase the life-saving skills they’ve been honing before graduation. Training at Randall Island includes activities like mock rescues and fire hose demonstrations.

Interestingly, this proposal coincided with recent discussions around enhancing the city’s fire department. Bronx Representative Kevin Riley is advocating for an additional $91.7 million to support hiring more firefighters, particularly in response to the increasing fire risks linked to lithium-ion batteries.
