Federal authorities issue warning ahead of Oct. 7 attacks anniversary

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security warned Friday that the upcoming one-year anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel could motivate some people to commit acts of violence in the United States.

Authorities said in a public service announcement that the anniversary could motivate extremists and others to engage in hate crimes and incite violence.

“Over the past year, we have observed conflict-related violent extremist activity and hate crimes in the United States,” the PSA said.

“Jewish, Muslim, and Arab institutions such as synagogues, mosques/Islamic centers, and community centers, as well as large public gatherings such as memorials, vigils, and other lawful demonstrations, are subject to violent attacks and “They are easy targets for fabricated threats from a wide range of people. We looked at a number of threat actors, including violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators.”

Hamas killed 1,200 people and kidnapped hundreds of hostages in a brazen terrorist attack against the Jewish state on October 7, 2023. The attack sparked an ongoing war between Israel and terrorist organizations.
