Federal Dept. of Education Just Takes Money, Likely Part of Why Students Can’t Read

In a “real-time” broadcast on HBO on Friday, host Bill Maher argued that the federal Department of Education is likely to be “unreadable, or at least partially” by American students. And “I don't know what it does except take money. It's kind of an intermediary.”

Maher said, “What about the Ministry of Education? Now I don't know much about it, but I have never read any good things. Rahm Emmanuel said that I agree with almost everything, and he I said, 8th grade 3 can't read, and now he wants to close the department? And I thought that maybe they can't read, or at least partially. is continuing to get worse and worse.”

He said, “And I don't know what the Ministry of Education is – it's not really – I don't know what it does except take money. It's kind of an intermediary It's like that. You don't run a classroom or do anything like that. I don't think you'll create a policy.”

Maher then turned to the local teacher contract and said, “It's insane. So it's not that there's no madness to deal with, and that doesn't seem like the kids are getting smarter.”
