US District Judge James Boasberg called for an emergency hearing Friday amid reports that the Trump administration was planning a “immediate” deportation under the 1798 alien enemy law.
The lawyers for the accused Venezuelan gang members asked Boasburg to issue a temporary restraining order that required 30 days of notice from the Trump administration, in a motion filed in the District Court in Washington, D.C., before the client was expelled under 18th century law.
“Late last night, today the plaintiff learned that the government had begun to give class members a notice of removal in English only.
“And last night, the officer told class members that it would be deleted within 24 hours. “Based on information and beliefs, individuals have already been loaded onto the bus.”
Plans for further deportation under the alien enemy law are underway, with flights “immediately”, US officials told ABC News Friday night.
“We are not going to provide details about the counter-terrorist operation, but we are following the Supreme Court decision,” Homeland Security Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin told the Post.
The hearing is scheduled for Friday at 6:15pm.
