Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said on Monday Assassination attempt Former President Donald Trump made the remarks at a rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.
Speaking at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., Powell said the attack on Trump at a Pittsburgh-area campaign rally was a “very sad day for our country.”
“Political violence has no place in our society. I know everyone feels that way, but I condemn it in the strongest terms,” he said. “One man was killed and two were seriously injured at a political rally. It’s a sad day. I’m grateful that the former president was not more seriously injured.”

A bullet grazed Trump’s ear during the shooting, but his campaign said the former president was “OK” after being examined at a local medical facility.
The shooting left a 50-year-old father of two dead and two other men seriously injured. The suspected shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper.

President Trump is scheduled to formally accept the Republican presidential nomination at the party’s convention in Milwaukee this week.

Markets rose on Monday as the shooting led traders to increase the odds that Trump will win the November election.

“The election is likely to be a landslide victory, which will reduce uncertainty,” Nick Ferres, chief investment officer at Vantage Point Asset Management, said, according to Reuters.

Powell declined to comment on the market impact.
Other business leaders have also spoken out against the assassination attempt.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon and Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan all condemned the attack in the days following the rally.
“We must all stand united and resolute against the hatred, intimidation and violent acts that seek to undermine or harm our democracy,” Dimon said in a memo to employees. “Only through constructive dialogue can we address our nation’s most difficult challenges.”
