Feds seize 1.4 metric tons of liquid heroin in Oregon — enough to provide 53.3 million fatal doses: Report

Four suspected drug dealers have been arrested in Oregon after they were found with liquid heroin in a moving truck, authorities said. fox news digital. The suspects are believed to have ties to an international criminal organization in Mexico.

Authorities arrested the men at a motel in Tigard on January 25th. Investigators were dispatched to the area after discovering that several individuals involved in a drug trafficking operation were attempting to smuggle illegal narcotics across the Oregon state line.

Authorities followed a rented moving truck driven by one of the suspects. The report said a red pickup truck followed the rental car on Interstate 84 near Bonneville until it arrived at a motel.

Investigators quickly obtained search warrants for the vehicle and motel room. They found eight 55-gallon barrels filled with 370 gallons of liquid narcotics inside the moving truck. Two loaded handguns were also found in the motel room, prosecutors said.

The liquid drug was tested and confirmed to be heroin.

seattle times report The arrested suspects are Santos Alisael Aguilar Maya (32), Marco Antonio Magalion (44), Luis Deleon Woodward (28), and Jorge Luis Amador (28). 25).

All suspects are charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute heroin, according to the report. U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Armistead granted pretrial release to two of the four people involved.

Woodward’s attorney, Casey Kovačić, said his client had no connection to the U-Haul truck and was simply given a ride from Yakima to Portland with a friend in a pickup truck.

U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin said the amount of heroin found in the barrel was “astronomical.”[s]We’ve never seen anything like this here in Oregon, and nothing even close to this in the past. ”

He further estimated that the amount of heroin in a moving truck would supply 53.3 million lethal doses of heroin. No details were given as to where the men planned to take the barrels.

It’s unclear how long the men could spend in prison if convicted.
