Feelings are intense between Tigers’ Tarik Skubal and Angels’ Zach Neto.

A tense situation unfolded on Friday night between the Tigers and the Angels after Detroit’s ace, Tarik Skubal, had an exchange with Zack Neto following a particularly charged third inning.

The benches briefly cleared when Neto returned to the dugout after his first-inning home run, an emotional moment that escalated tensions.

Neto’s homer seemed to aggravate Skubal, who responded when Neto celebrated. It appears Skubal might have said something after giving up that home run.

Angels manager Ron Washington indicated that the incident started with Skubal, who won the American League Cy Young Award last season. “I’ve never looked into it, but I imagine he had something to say,” Washington told the media. “He got him out the first time, then Neto hit the second one.”

Both players showed they understood the competitive spirit involved. Skubal commented, “It’s a competition. At the end of the day, it’s not personal. Neto is a talented player; he’s proven that.”

Neto shared his perspective: “I had a good swing on the first one. The next time, I missed an opportunity. It’s all part of the competitive nature of the sport, with high energy in crucial moments.”

As the game progressed into the latter innings, the adrenaline faded, and the Tigers notched a solid 9-1 victory, with Skubal securing his sixth win against Neto without any further drama.
