Felicity Huffman wears Carnegie Mellon shirt after college admissions scandal

Felicity Huffman is making a bold statement in the wake of the college admissions scandal.

The “Desperate Housewives” star, 61, stepped out on Thursday in a Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt as he prepared for his big stage debut at London’s Park Theatre.

Huffman paired the college sweatshirt with black leggings and sneakers. Her hair was tied back in a bun.

The actress’s role came after her eldest daughter, Sophia Macy, was accepted to drama college.

Sophia retakes the SAT and is accepted into Carnegie Mellon University after her mother’s involvement in the Varsity Blues college admissions scandal.

Huffman is hoping to make a career comeback after his arrest in Operation Varsity Blues, and recently opened up about how the scandal has affected his life and career.

“I walk into the room with it. I did it. It’s black and white,” Huffman told the Guardian. “How am I doing? That’s a heavy question in some ways. If my kids are doing well and my husband is doing well, then I feel like I’m doing well.”

Huffman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud after bribing a college admissions specialist with $15,000 to get his daughter into college. After the actress served 11 days of a 14-day jail sentence, she was ordered to pay a $30,000 fine and perform 250 hours of community service.

Even though Ms. Huffman has been booked for several acting jobs since her arrest, the Oscar-nominated actress said she is still feeling the effects of the scandal years later.

She landed a role on The Good Doctor and voice work on Supreme: The Battle for Law, and is currently performing in her first role in a revival of Taylor Mac’s Hire at London’s Park Theater. As she prepares to take on the big role, Huffman admitted about her career: I’ve been suffering.

“I recently did a pilot for ABC and it didn’t get picked up. It was tough,” she said. “It’s like your life has ended and you died with it.”

She added that she is “grateful” for her support system, including her daughters Georgia, 21, and Sophia, 23, with her husband of 27 years, William H. Macy, who was not charged criminally in the fraud case.

“I was lucky enough to have family and love and resources so I had a place to land,” she said.

Last December, Huffman addressed his role in the college admissions scandal for the first time since it broke.

“I felt like I had to give my daughter a chance at a future,” Huffman told ABC. “So it was like my daughter’s future. So I had to break the law.”
