FEMA Shifts Almost $1 Billion from Controversial Infrastructure Initiative to Vital Disaster Relief

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revealed on Friday that it will reallocate $895 million from its Awakening Infrastructure Program to assist with disaster response, as exclusively reported by Breitbart News.

“The BRIC initiative was yet another instance of a streamlined and ineffective FEMA program. We prioritized political agendas over aiding Americans affected by natural calamities. Under Secretary Noam’s leadership, we assure that individuals in distress will have access to the necessary help and resources.

FEMA has discontinued its Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program under the guidance of Homeland Security (DHS) Director Kristi Noem and has canceled all applications for the years 2020-2023. All unallocated grants destined for states, tribes, regions, and communities will be reverted to either the Disaster Relief Fund or the U.S. Treasury.

The BRIC program was established as part of the $1.2 trillion infrastructure investment and Jobs Act.

2021 BRIC Program focus Among other priorities, we allowed “a focus on equity considerations through further evaluations of at-risk communities, broader stakeholder engagement, and more varied partnerships.”

Brick’s objectives for 2022, under the Biden administration,Incentives“:

  • Activities aimed at reducing natural disaster risks to public infrastructure and creating “resilient communities”
  • “The initiative focuses on nature-based solutions alongside other proposals.generate Economic growth via green jobs and increased property values.”
  • Projects aimed at enhancing climate resilience and adaptation
  • Latest recruitment and enforcement efforts

The proposed infrastructure bill intends to allocate $1 billion to BRIC over a five-year period, utilizing $134 million for approximately 450 applications, while FEMA anticipates retaining over $2.5 billion in the Disaster Relief Fund for disaster response and community recovery.

The program’s results align with President Donald Trump’s executive order and Secretary Noem’s mandate to enhance support for states and communities in disaster readiness and response.

The Biden administration has invested in initiatives aimed at promoting fairness in infrastructure projects, while the Trump administration and Secretary Noem concentrated on combating illegal immigration and ensuring national safety.

Noem recently inspected a prison in El Salvador housing numerous deported gang members alleged to be connected to Tren de Aragua (TDA) and MS-13.

Under Noem’s leadership, FEMA terminated four employees who bypassed management to fund immigrant housing at a New York hotel.

In March, Noem articulated how FEMA operates as “a bureaucracy that picks and chooses winners.”

“Indeed, I assert we’ll dismantle FEMA as it currently exists. Individuals facing disasters like Hurricane Helen and wildfires in California, along with local authorities, should be empowered to make decisions about filming,” Noem remarked.

Trump criticized FEMA in January for complicating “everything,” implying that the agency is failing to concentrate on its primary mission.
