The feminist musical “Suffus,” produced by former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, will be canceled on Broadway due to financial issues, according to The New York Times.
The decision was announced Friday night by the producers of the musical about the women's suffrage movement. According to Securities and Exchange Commission filings reviewed by the Times, Safs' total capital was $19 million, but that amount has never been recovered.
The musical grossed just $679,589 for the week ending Oct. 6, usually not enough money to sustain a Broadway show with a large cast. The show debuted in April, but struggled to fill all seats in just two weeks after its official performance.

In addition to the former first lady, the musical was also produced by Malala Yousafzai. In July, a group of radical protesters disrupted a performance of “Suffus,” calling the musical a “betrayal of the next generation of feminists.”
“We reject this rehash white feminism“This action is brought to you by a radical, anti-racist, queer feminist voluntary group,” the group's website says.
Despite its relatively short run for a Broadway musical, “Suffus'' received positive reviews from critics and won the Tony Award for Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Score in June. Clinton referenced her 2016 loss when introducing her performance at the awards ceremony.
“I've been on many stages so far, but this time is special.” Mr. Clinton said Before introducing the performers.
