Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman is pleading with his party to stop hyperventilating after losing to President-elect Donald Trump earlier this month.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Fetterman said the pearl-clutching and anger the party displayed after Trump's victory will only make Trump stronger and liberals irrelevant. said.
“It's not even Thanksgiving yet and Democrats can't stop losing their minds every 15 minutes. We really need to pace ourselves, no, FFS.” [for f—‘s sake]grab a grip,” he said. He told Times reporter Jess Bidgood..

The congressman asked Bidgood whether Democratic leadership “needs to analyze what went wrong,” and said the party is taking time to review its strategy rather than suddenly reviewing it. He pointed out that it should be reconsidered.
“I want them to understand that this is how the election is going. For at least the next two years, they're going to have the opportunity to write the narrative and drive that narrative,” he said.
Looking for more specifics, the reporter asked Fetterman how the party should respond to the next president's cabinet choices. His advice is to be patient and avoid excessive resistance.
“What I'm saying is, buckle up and pack your lunch because this situation is going to go on for four years. And if you have the option of panicking when the time comes, that's your right. But I'm not going to do that,'' he said, adding, “I'm not that person, I'm not a Democrat, and I'm going to pick a fight.''
He added a word of warning to his colleagues: “If you panic about anything, you lose any sense of relevance.”
Bidgood then asked if liberals had made “too much of a fuss” about Trump.

“It's a symbiosis. One feeds off the other. Democrats can't resist abnormalities. That should be a tailwind for Trump,” Fetterman said.
Fetterman added: “The extraordinary circumstances and all the anxiety and everything that should have happened before Nov. 5.”
“Does it change anything to hold the pearl so tightly?'' he said. “Did it work? Did it change the election? Was it productive? And such an outrage is unbelievable. It must be candy for Trump.”
Trump won Fetterman's home state of Pennsylvania in the 2024 election. It was the fifth consecutive election in which the state's winner also won the White House. Fetterman, who is running for a first term in 2022, has repeatedly warned of Trump's strength in the state despite Joe Biden's 2020 victory.
