Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, recently defended former President Donald Trump against comments made by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whom he described as a “different kind of Democrat.”
Reportedly, the California Congressman announced intentions to retire after the recent election. Meanwhile, CNN referred to Trump as “the worst person on the planet.”
Pelosi described Trump as “just a vile creature,” elaborating in her interview with reporter Erex Michaelson. When asked if she believed Trump was the worst human being on Earth, her response was a decisive, “Yes, yes. Yes.”
She explained her viewpoint, stating, “Because he’s the president of the United States and he doesn’t respect the Constitution. In fact, he turned the Supreme Court into a corrupt court. He abolished the House of Representatives. He’s chilling the press. He’s scaring the people who are legally in our country.”
Fetterman criticized Pelosi’s remarks during an appearance on Fox News, referring to her comments as divisive.
In his defense of Trump, Fetterman argued, “The worst creatures on earth are things like Hamas or the Iranian leadership, and there are a lot of people involved in that.” He emphasized, “I would never use those words and I would never describe our president like that. I’ve got my disagreements with him, but I don’t think it’s entirely appropriate.” He characterized Pelosi’s rhetoric as reflective of a “different kind of Democrat.”
He also mentioned that he does not label those with differing opinions as “fascists” or “Nazis.”
His statements resonated with previous sentiments shared on Fox News, where he remarked, “As a Democrat, I refuse to call you a fascist or a Nazi. That’s wrong. If you resort to that, you’ve lost.” He clarified that calling Trump a fascist implies that those who voted for him are also fascists, which he argued is not the case.
