Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) stated that he wouldn’t “become that guy” known for being labeled a “Nazi or Fascist” and ruled out switching parties during an interview on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“I’m not switching. I’m going to be a Democrat and an independent voice. I’m not going to cow to anyone,” he mentioned to Maria Bartiromo of Fox News.
He added, “If there’s a group attacking Democrats, that’s part of our party’s issue. If you want a Democrat who’s going to call people Nazis or fascists, I’m not that guy. Whether I’m considered a Republican or a Democratic voice, I believe in the truth.”
Despite challenges within the party regarding the Israeli-Hamas conflict, he reiterated support for Israel, calling on the government to always act rightly, as party and Republican members continue to engage in discussions.
“If that’s what distinguishes my voice and puts me in the outlier category, then so be it,” he remarked.
His comments come during a time when Congressional members manage a potential government shutdown, while President Trump focuses on a peace plan regarding Gaza, with a September 30 deadline for an agreement.
Fetterman also took a moment to criticize Trump, expressing discontent over important U.S. allies recognizing a Palestinian state, labeling it a “reward for Hamas.”
“When you’ve got humans underground, tortured, starved, and suffering for years, calling it a reward for Hamas is misleading. That’s their narrative, and I absolutely cannot concede to that,” he stated.
