Fetterman parts ways with Democrats, supports Graham on Palestinian statehood

Fetterman Critiques Graham’s Comments on Jewish Community

Senator John Fetterman expressed discontent with the Democratic Party on Sunday, claiming that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham made anti-Semitic remarks following a fatal terrorist attack during Hanukkah celebrations in Australia.

On “Sunday Morning Futures,” Fetterman mentioned his agreement with much of what Graham said earlier, particularly concerning the danger of empowering Hamas to create a Palestinian state. “This is a complete betrayal for Israel and for Jewish communities around the world,” he stated.

He continued, emphasizing that Western allies, whether in France or Australia, are calling for a two-state solution, while Hamas remains armed and actively threatens Jewish lives. “I can’t understand why anyone would support Hamas at this stage,” he added, hinting at broader implications for global security.

Graham, during the same segment, criticized Western nations that have recognized a Palestinian state, accusing them of “repaying the murder of Jews” through their actions. Earlier this year, countries including Australia, France, Britain, and Canada officially recognized Palestine. In a statement, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney clarified that their decision was not about legitimizing terrorism but aimed at paving the way for recovery following the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The attack in Sydney, which occurred during the annual Hanukkah celebration, resulted in 12 deaths, including one of the attackers, and left several injured. Authorities are treating it as an act of terrorism targeting the Jewish community.

The United States does not formally recognize a Palestinian state, and Fetterman also took aim at his own party for what he perceives as increasingly anti-Israel rhetoric. He observed that the narrative surrounding the conflict is shifting in ways that he finds concerning. “I can’t fathom how many in my party are backing down or changing their stance while denouncing acts of barbarism,” he remarked.

Fetterman maintained his pro-Israel stance, urging the Democratic Party to moderate its criticisms of Israel. He attributed the rise in anti-Semitism in the U.S. to social media, stating, “Our young people have completely turned their backs on Israel. Social media has become a breeding ground for anti-Semitism.”

As various Democratic leaders, including Senators Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, condemned the attack, the situation reflects deep divisions and conflicting narratives within U.S. politics regarding support for Israel and the Palestinian cause.
