Tragic Death of USPS Employee in Michigan
A postal worker in Michigan was discovered deceased inside a mail processing apparatus.
Nicholas John Acker, aged 36, was found on Saturday within a conveyor belt system at the USPS Detroit Network Distribution Center in Allen Park. He had been working a late-night shift as a mechanic and had been dead for several hours when firefighters responded. Acker had been employed there for about a year.
Acker’s fiancée, Stephanie Jaszcz, responded to his absence after he failed to return home and didn’t answer calls or emails. She recounted her experience, stating, “I went there and talked to someone at the intercom, explaining that my fiancé was missing.”
After waiting for an hour at the entry gate, Jaszcz discovered he had never missed a work shift. “They told me he never missed. Suddenly, an ambulance, a fire truck, and police cars all showed up. No one would let me through or speak to me,” she recalled.
Two hours later, she received the heartbreaking news of Acker’s death. “I fell to my knees and cried, but when the gate opened, I ran through,” she said.
Jaszcz and Acker had been engaged for just 10 days before this tragedy. She described Acker, an Air Force veteran, as kind and thoughtful, and expressed her confusion about the circumstances surrounding his death. “All they know is he was in the machine, but they don’t have any details about when or how it happened,” she said. “The autopsy could take four to six months. It feels like a nightmare.”
According to Lt. Jason Dovertin from the Allen Park Police Department, they were notified of a fatal accident at the facility on November 8 around 12:25 p.m. He noted that there didn’t appear to be anything suspicious regarding Acker’s death.
In a statement, USPS expressed its sorrow about Acker’s passing, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. The distribution center is operating fully.” However, Jaszcz criticized the organization for its comments about ongoing mail operations, calling them “horrible” and “inhumane.” She emphasized, “A man is gone. A veteran. A husband. And the focus is on the mail? It’s disgusting.”
Dovertin mentioned that USPS officials are cooperating with the investigation. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to assist Jaszcz, and as of now, it has raised $12,350.
The Daily Caller reached out to the Allen Park Police Department for comment, but there was no immediate response.
