Fighting among LA Galaxy and San Diego FC fans leads to heavy police intervention in chaotic situation

After Saturday’s match, things got pretty heated between LA Galaxy and San Diego FC fans.

Video footage captured a chaotic brawl that erupted in the stands at Snapdragon Stadium. Surprisingly, the home team managed to clinch a 2-1 victory, but what followed was a wild scene in the parking area.

This incident prompted a heavy police presence. According to reports, a police helicopter was deployed to instruct fans to vacate the parking lot about an hour post-game.

Both clubs issued statements condemning their fans’ behavior.

“San Diego FC and LA Galaxy stand together in our commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all supporters,” their joint statement read. “Violence has no place in our sport. The events that occurred after Saturday’s game do not reflect our values and are utterly unacceptable. We urge all fans to express their enthusiasm for the game respectfully.”

A brief video from the match displayed fans in the upper deck moving toward the exit, leading to an outburst of punches.

Despite having security present, it seemed ineffective in curbing the chaos.

Things escalated when fans dressed in white started tumbling over the balcony, with some losing their footing near the railing.

In a particularly intense moment, one fan confronted another at the front row, leading to a tussle.

Fans then began hurling objects at one another, and footage showed one individual caught in a 3-on-1 situation.

After a brief lull, the fighting resumed with punches and kicks flying.

“They’re still going at it,” an observer noted in a video shared by a user on X.

Although it seemed like security tried to intervene, their initial efforts were not very effective.

The aftermath in the parking lot featured numerous police cars, and eyewitnesses noted a significant police presence, estimating more than 12 officers were on-site.

So far, there haven’t been any confirmed reports of arrests or injuries.

This was the second time this year that a San Diego FC home match was marred by fan violence, the first incident occurring during a game against LAFC on March 29th.

“The values of our club are clear: violence is not acceptable in this sport,” San Diego’s manager, Mikey Baras, expressed. “It’s a beautiful game, meant to be enjoyed. Passion is one thing, but this is entirely different.”

The statement from both clubs added that there may be repercussions for those involved.

“Both teams are actively collaborating with Snapdragon Stadium, Major League Soccer, and local law enforcement to thoroughly review the situation,” the announcement stated. “Any actions deemed violations of the MLS fan code of conduct may lead to disciplinary measures, including ejections and potential bans.”
