California Man Charged with Child Abuse Material Possession
A man from California has been charged with multiple felonies after authorities found a large number of child sexual abuse files at his vacation rental property.
Christian Parmalee Edwards, a 44-year-old from Oakhurst, was apprehended on Monday. Investigators reported that they discovered over 4,000 illegal digital files within his home, which he had been renting out to visitors.
Authorities claim that not only did Edwards possess and distribute these materials, but he also recorded guests in private moments without their consent, resulting in further charges related to privacy violations.
The investigation began following a tip-off from the National Center on Missing and Exploited Children, which suggested that there was illegal distribution occurring online in the area.
Following this information, investigators executed a search warrant at the property located on Granite Butte Way last Thursday, where they seized multiple electronic devices that are now undergoing analysis.
The case is being handled with cooperation from the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Authorities are also looking to identify any potential victims who may have stayed at the rental.
Edwards is currently being held, with bail set at $75,000, and he has not yet entered a plea.
Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue stated that protecting the vulnerable and ensuring justice is a significant priority for his department, reflecting a broader commitment to public safety.
This incident highlights a concerning trend as the Internet Watch Foundation recently reported an alarming rise in child exploitation cases, with over 291,000 incidents documented in 2024 alone—a daily average of about 800 reports, marking the highest number ever recorded.
