Several Fiorentina players were present when Barone collapsed before Fiorentina’s Serie A game against Atalanta.

The match was postponed as he was reportedly taken by helicopter to the intensive care unit of Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital and his family flew to Italy.

Barone, 58, a lifetime member of the Brooklyn Italians, previously served as executive vice president of the New York Cosmos and president of the National Premier Soccer League.

He joined Fiorentina when Cosmos owner Rocco Commisso bought the Serie A club.

Barone’s four children are expected to arrive on Monday, according to the Associated Press.
