A dog that fell into an icy lake amid frigid temperatures was successfully rescued by firefighters in Missouri, as captured in a dramatic video. The St. Louis Fire Department shared footage of the operation on their Facebook page, highlighting their marine rescue unit’s leadership in the mission.
According to the STLFD, the dog had wandered onto the ice during cold single-digit weather and soon found itself in life-threatening trouble. The ice gave way, trapping the dog in the freezing water, and the cold quickly set in, making it impossible for the animal to swim to safety.
The video shows rescuers on a boat approaching the large dog, which was clinging to the ice. When they finally pulled it from the water, the dog seemed stiff and numb from the extreme cold. It’s unclear how long it had been stranded.
Responders managed to lift the dog onto the boat, and they reported hearing it bark softly. Once on board, the dog collapsed, prompting one crew member to comfort and pet it gently.
The fire department mentioned that their team rushed out after receiving a call about the incident. They navigated the icy conditions and reached the dog just in time to pull it to safety.
Fortunately, the dog is in good condition now and is expected to recover fully.
