Fire department halts fireworks sales in Flatbush ahead of the Fourth

This week, the FDNY took action against a Brooklyn business owner, seizing about $250,000 worth of illegal fireworks from a warehouse in Flatbush, just ahead of Independence Day, according to officials.

Lisen Pan, who operates Everbright Trading Co., was arrested on Tuesday. He allegedly sold various fireworks, including ones named “Morning Glory,” “Tomahawk,” “Roman Candle,” and “Brooklyn Firewalks,” among others.

FDNY began its investigation after getting a tip from Suffolk County police. They had arrested an individual who supposedly purchased illegal fireworks from Pan’s business.

“There were different styles—products that could potentially cause fires in New York City,” an official noted. “Sometimes they land on roofs and cause fires, especially on July 4th.”

Over 1,000 boxes of fireworks were removed and later destroyed at an NYPD firing range in Rodman’s Neck, as stated by Flynn.

Pan was charged with possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and the illegal sale of fireworks, authorities reported.

FDNY investigators had frequently visited this business and found it involved in the sale of explosives.

“Fireworks are hazardous and pose a significant threat to life,” stated FDNY Commissioner Tucker. “They shouldn’t be in the hands of the public.”

The investigation was conducted in collaboration with the FDNY and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. “This joint effort has resulted in the removal of a substantial quantity of illegal and dangerous fireworks,” Tucker added. “Let me be clear: actions that endanger the public will not be tolerated.”
