Former senior firearms sales executive Ryan Busse was elected as the Democratic nominee for Montana governor in November, defeating Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte.

While most of Montana’s state leadership is currently Republican, the governor’s seat was held by a Democrat for nearly a decade before Gianforte flipped to the Republican Party in 2020.

On his campaign website, Busse detailed his views on what he calls the “climate crisis,” his pro-abortion stance, his pro-Second Amendment views and access to public lands.

Busse, who served as sales director for a major firearms manufacturer for 25 years, says on his campaign website that he supports gun ownership, but “recognizes that unchecked extremism endangers the rights of all gun owners and that extremism can undermine American freedoms and even endanger our democracy.”
