Firefighter in UK adopts dog after rescuing it from deceased owner’s home: ‘Jumped into my arms’

A firefighter has added a four-legged friend to his life after completing a very tough assignment.

Firefighter James Trounson recently adopted a terrier named Martha after rescuing the dog from its previous owner’s home.

The 52-year-old firefighter from Marion Community Fire Station in Cornwall, England, was one of the members called to the rescue of Helston Community Fire Station when they found a woman dead inside her home.

In the April 2024 incident, Trounson said she found a devoted 8-year-old dog named Martha who never left her owner’s side.

“This little terrier took a lot of convincing to come to me. [but] In the end, she jumped into my arms,” he said.

The dog had no relatives, so Trounson suggested taking her to the same adoption agency that had adopted a collie named Merlin four years earlier.
