Fitness trainer breaks 2 Guinness World Records — by doing lunges across New York City 

A fitness trainer zips around New York City and breaks two Guinness World Records.

Austin Head, a trainer at New York’s Lifetime Fitness Club, set out to win a title when he turned 30, and he’s accomplished that goal twice.

The 30-year-old holds the records for most lunges done in one hour (male) and longest distance covered in one hour. According to Guinness.

On Friday, 2,825 head lunges were performed in 60 minutes, breaking the previous record of 2,358. Twelve days ago, on March 10, he dashed 2.14 miles (3.45 km) in 60 minutes during training, breaking his distance record.

“My foot is finally feeling better,” Head told the Post on Wednesday. “I feel so lucky to have had so much support on the day of my Guinness World Record attempt!”

He told Guinness that he is not a world record holder because he is in top form. He says he’s feeling great but “definitely not at his best.” Rather, he said he was successful because he used a “mindset to take my physical abilities to another level.”

But he’s not done yet.

“I can’t even believe I’m saying it myself, but I want to challenge the Guinness World Record for fastest mile lunge (male)!” And fastest 800m lunge time (male)! ” the enthusiastic secretary revealed to the Post.

Currently, the fastest 800m lunge time (male) is 9:40.82, achieved by Jacob Holland on October 6, 2023 in Granville, Ohio. The fastest lunge mile record (for men) is set at 22 minutes 52 seconds. By Paul Searles on March 19th of last year in Hamilton, New Jersey.

His rush journey began along the Brooklyn waterfront on Dumbo’s carousel, traveled along a pier under Brooklyn Heights, then circled and ended near its starting point.

He raised $7,599. Of that amount, $2,500 of his one-hour record-breaking attempt will go toward funding New York health and wellness programs.

“I have a brother with a disability and I grew up taking care of my mother’s brother. This instilled in me the need to help people,” Head told Guinness.

“I’ve also loved acting since I was a kid. Being a group instructor is just the perfect balance of the two. I get to help people while being on stage,” he added. “I feel very lucky to be able to do what I’m supposed to do every day.”

Head said he has been doing lunges “for years” and often does them during fitness classes, but he has started doing them consistently during the COVID-19 pandemic. .

“I was only doing walking lunges for 45 minutes at a time,” he shared with Guinness. “We feel very fortunate to live in Dumbo, one of the best neighborhoods in New York. We wanted it to be right on the waterfront.”

But Head, who teaches about 30 classes a week at Lifetime, admitted that he overtrained at first and started teaching full-day classes straight from his lunge sessions. This made him realize “right away” how important recovery was.

Although Head called his efforts a “huge sacrifice,” he encouraged others to “find their ‘why’ and their own purpose.” That way, on days when you feel like giving up, you can always go back to your “why” and find motivation. ”
