Five figures from media, sports, and entertainment are campaigning for political positions

5 media, sports and entertainment personalities running for office

In recent months, a notable trend has emerged: figures from the realms of media, sports, and entertainment are increasingly stepping into the political arena, showcasing a blend of these different worlds.

Several reality TV stars have begun their political campaigns, with a growing number of personalities from various entertainment sectors joining them, not just former athletes.

Here’s a look at some of these personalities who are pursuing political careers.

Bravo’s “Married to Medicine”

Heavenly Kimes, known from Bravo’s “Married To Medicine,” is running for Congress, motivated by concerns that Medicaid cuts could adversely affect her community.

As a dentist, with her husband serving as the chief medical officer at a hospital in Atlanta, Kimes previously aimed for a position in the Georgia State Capitol but shifted focus after a significant bill was passed.

She reflected, “Before the Capitol announcement, a big bill was signed. I wanted to know what lawmakers would say as Trump attacked former allies.”

Noticing Georgians losing jobs, she hoped for strong leadership to guide families towards new opportunities. Consulting community leaders led her to run for a council position instead.

Despite initial restrictions from Bravo on her candidacy, they eventually approved coverage for her campaign.

Kimes is now geared up to challenge David Scott (D-Ga.) in the primaries.

Tim Myers, Former Band Member

Tim Myers, who once played bass for Onerepublic, is now setting his sights on becoming California’s lieutenant governor.

After a brief campaign for the House of Representatives, he pivoted to this new role. He had intended to run against Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif) as a Democrat.

Myers, having produced for artists like Kesha, noted that California is a target of the Trump administration, particularly after the National Guard was deployed in LA.

He expressed, “California faces attacks from Trump and a system overwhelmed by career politicians. We need new leadership urgently.”

“I’m not a politician—I’m just a regular guy, a husband, a businessman,” he continued. “I want to bring a fresh voice to Sacramento.”

Myers aims to succeed Lieutenant Colonel Eleni Kunarakis, who is also running for governor, touting a focus on state issues and protecting California from federal overreach.

Mark Teixeira, MLB Player

Mark Teixeira, known for a robust 14-season career in Major League Baseball with teams like the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees, is now vying to become a Republican representative for Texas.

He calls himself a “fiscal conservative” and has garnered support from notable Republicans such as House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan.

Teixeira stated, “To achieve prosperity, we need solid conservative policies, which is what Trump is advocating for.”

Derek Dooley, Football Coach

Derek Dooley, after three decades in football coaching alongside legends like Nick Saban, is looking to unseat Senator John Ossoff (D-Ga.) next year.

With backing from Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Dooley’s chances appear promising.

He emphasized, “Georgia needs a fighter who understands leadership, not just another politician seeking promotion.”

Jay Ferry, Former CBS Host and NFL Kicker

Jay Ferry, a former CBS host and NFL kicker, announced his congressional bid as a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, aiming to represent Arizona.

Ferry’s political ambitions seem to be evolving, as he engages with local communities and gathers campaign support.

He expressed that the shocking passing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk shook up the political landscape, reinforcing his commitment to run.

Ferry contended, “The left’s divisive rhetoric has dangerous implications. We need to stop this now.”

In light of recent violence, Democratic leaders also condemned the tragic shooting at Utah Valley University where Kirk was killed.
