Five Injured by Gunmen in Mexican Beach Resort During Bar Incident

Bar Shooting in Cancun Injures Five

Gunmen opened fire at a bar in Cancun, a popular beach resort, injuring five individuals. This incident occurred just days after another shooting happened in Playa del Carmen, another well-frequented tourist spot.

The incident took place early Monday morning at Fusion, a bar located in the northwest area of Cancun. According to a local news source, the assailants approached and started shooting inside the bar, which had only about ten people present at the time. They managed to flee the scene before the authorities arrived.

Local police and paramedics quickly tended to the five wounded and transported them to a hospital, although their current conditions are not known.

Despite coordinated efforts by authorities to locate the shooters, they were unsuccessful.

Notably, a similar incident occurred in February 2025 at the same venue, previously named Babylonia, where an unknown gunman injured three and killed one person.

The Cancun shooting came shortly after a similar attack at Cantareta, a bar in Playa del Carmen. In that case, a group of gunmen on motorcycles opened fire, injuring one person before escaping.

This kind of violence is particularly troubling as tourists are arriving in Mexico’s Caribbean resorts for spring break and Easter celebrations. As of now, the motive behind the Cancun shooting has not been made public. Reports suggest that such attacks may be linked to conflicts between rival cartels, which often engage in turf wars over drug distribution and extortion schemes aimed at bar owners.
