Five killed after small airplane crashes in Nashville

Five people were killed when a single-engine plane crashed on the side of a highway early Tuesday morning, the Nashville Metro Police Department said.

Police said in a post on social media platform X that the plane crashed from the eastbound lanes past the Charlotte Pike exit, adding that work is underway to determine where the plane came from.

Police said the Federal Aviation Administration is currently on scene and the National Transportation Safety Board is expected to arrive later Tuesday.
