Florida Republicans are seeking to repeal the state's red flag law and a law that raised the minimum age to purchase rifles to 21.
According to the Associated Press, state Rep. Joel Rudman (R) push for abolition State Sen. Randy Fine (R), a supporter of the red flag law, is calling for the repeal of the law that prohibits young people between the ages of 18 and 20 from purchasing rifles.
“I look forward to seeing our state once again earn the title of Gunshine State, where citizens trade their God-given freedoms in exchange for empty promises of security by politicians,” Rudman said. “I will no longer be required to do so,” he said.
Florida's red flag law and minimum purchase age increase were passed on short notice in the wake of the Parkland High School shooting on February 14, 2018. These were signed by Gov. Rick Scott (R) in March 2018.

California has red flag laws and has the toughest gun laws of any state in the Union. Despite this, California led the nation in “active shooters” in 2021 and 2023.
