Flags are lowered to half-staff to pay tribute to conservative leader Charlie Kirk.

The American flag at the White House was lowered to half-staff on Wednesday evening following President Trump’s order in memory of Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, a 31-year-old husband, father, conservative activist, and founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically shot during a gathering at Utah Valley University on the same day.

In a social media post, Trump stated, “In honor of the truly great American patriot Charlie Kirk, I have directed that all flags across the United States be flown at half-staff until 6 PM on Sunday.”

Photos taken show the flags at half-staff at the White House as per Trump’s directives.

Trump made an official announcement, expressing, “As a show of respect for Charlie Kirk’s memory, I take action under the authorities vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States. This includes all of Colombia and US territory until sunset on September 14, 2025.”

His proclamation included instructions for flags at U.S. embassies, consulates, and military establishments abroad to also be flown at half-staff in Kirk’s honor.

Earlier that day, Trump had announced Kirk’s death, remarking, “Even great and legendary, Charlie Kirk is dead.”

“Charlie understood the hearts of the youth better than anyone else. He was always there for everyone, especially for me. Now, he’s no longer with us. Melania and I send our condolences to his wonderful wife Erica and their family. Charlie, we love you!” Trump added.

The USDA shared footage of the American flag outside its headquarters at half-staff as a tribute to Kirk.

Similarly, flags were observed at half-staff in Orem, Utah, as well as at Utah Valley University.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox directed that Utah flags be lowered at all state buildings “in recognition of the tragic passing of Charlie Kirk.”

Republican Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt also announced via X that he ordered all Oklahoma flags to be lowered, honoring “Charlie Kirk’s extraordinary life and legacy.”

“The memory of this tireless champion for freedom will never fade,” Stitt wrote.
