Flavor Flav Offers Alternative Celebration for Women’s Hockey Team
In light of the U.S. women’s hockey team not accepting an invitation to the White House due to scheduling issues, rapper Flavor Flav has stepped forward with an alternative celebration plan. He expressed his support after the team’s recent overtime victory against Canada, which secured them a gold medal.
Flavor Flav, known for his vibrant personality, took to social media, sharing, “If the U.S. women’s hockey team wants to have a real celebration, I’ll host them in Las Vegas. A lovely dinner, a show, and a great time await. I’m sure I can get some hotel and airline assistance to make this a true celebration,” demonstrating his enthusiasm for honoring the athletes.
Later, he made a lighthearted remark on X, stating that the team had “accepted” his invitation for a celebration in Las Vegas, although that specific comment seems to have since vanished from his account. Nonetheless, he is reportedly in talks with various airlines and brands to arrange festivities.
In response to the situation, former President Donald Trump made a quip about needing to invite the women’s team as well after extending a first invitation to the men’s team, saying, “If I don’t invite them, I’ll probably be impeached,” illustrating the sometimes humorous dynamics surrounding such invitations.
Flavor Flav, whose real name is Williams Jonathan Drayton Jr., has proactively sent out invitations to the women’s team via email, which he shared on social platforms. In his outreach, he congratulated the team on their gold medal and referenced the men’s invite to the White House, suggesting that it perhaps wasn’t handled well for the women.
He’s long been an advocate for women’s sports, with past gestures including supporting discus thrower Veronica Fraley during tough financial times. Meanwhile, the women’s team, while honored, declined the White House invitation due to prior commitments and scheduling conflicts.
A spokesperson from USA Hockey acknowledged the invitation, expressing gratitude for the team’s recognition, while also noting their inability to participate due to existing responsibilities they had after the Olympics.
As Flavor Flav’s plans unfold, one thing is clear: he’s dedicated to ensuring that the women’s hockey team gets the celebration they deserve, even if it isn’t in the traditional setting.
