Tragic Accident Linked to Illegal Immigration

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that 20-year-old Fletcher Harris and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Skyler Provenza, would likely still be alive if it weren’t for issues surrounding illegal immigration.

Juan Alvarado Aguilar, an undocumented individual currently held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was arrested in Rowan County on charges of felony vehicular assault and DUI.

According to police, Aguilar was operating his truck when he veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with Harris’s vehicle, where Provenza was a passenger. Unfortunately, both young people died at the scene.

Noem commented to Breitbart News, noting that Aguilar should not have been in the United States. His temporary work visa, issued in March 2020, had expired shortly after, but he failed to leave as required.

“Fletcher and Skyler had bright futures ahead of them, and they would still be with us if it weren’t for Juan Alvarado Aguilar, an undocumented individual from Mexico who chose to drive recklessly and under the influence,” said Noem.

Noem further emphasized that under the leadership of President Trump and her own efforts, dangerous individuals who shouldn’t be in the country are being apprehended and removed regularly. “ICE has filed a warrant with the Rowan County Jail to prevent this individual from resurfacing in our community and to ensure his permanent removal from the U.S.,” she stated.

ICE has also filed a request to ensure Aguilar remains in custody, should he be released from the county jail.

Harris, who attended Catawba College, was a promising soccer player and pursued a double major in biology and environmental studies. He was consistently recognized on the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List.

In her obituary, Provenza was remembered as “a natural leader with a spirit of sunshine and beauty wrapped in kindness and laughter,” emphasizing the strong bond between the two, referring to them as “soul mates.”
